About The Composer
Dr. Lorna Barker is a performer, accompanist, adjudicator and teacher in Mount Pleasant and Charleston, South Carolina. She has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina, after receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory in Cleveland, Ohio and a Master of Music degree from Syracuse, New York. All her degrees are in piano performance. She has taught private piano, music history and music theory at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, Limestone College, the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University, all in Charleston, South Carolina. She has performed hundreds of times as the pianist for the Charleston
  Symphony Orchestra as well as concertized on the East Coast and abroad. She has performed many times for Piccolo Spoleto as a solo performer and as a member of various chamber ensembles. Currently, Dr. Barker is the Pianist for the North Charleston Pops Orchestra and the Music Director at Christ Church, a position she has enjoyed for the past twenty-five years. Her choir at Christ Church has performed for Piccolo Spoleto, for the Biltmore Candlelight tours, annually at the East Cooper Concert Series and has also recorded two successful CDs. Dr. Barker also maintains an active private piano studio and consistently has students performing at the state level. Her expertise in teaching, arranging and performing is a gift to her church and her community.
